2016

The thesis below was undertaken at Griffith University in 2016, projects were also undertaken through my business Demiurge Design.

Project 1 - Thesis 2016

My study examined the effects of colour in wayfinding systems within hospital environments, and specifically looked at how the application of correct wayfinding strategies can enhance user experience.

The study focused on colour and the understanding of colour psychology, coupled with the application of wayfinding in healthcare environments, with case studies of Australian and international hospitals researched, to form the research question and begin the method of study.

A study was conducted and examined in which, participants were questioned on the colour usage in hospital design, and were shown a concept design for an application to assist wayfinding for users.

This study has resulted in two outcomes, the first is a guideline, which has been created for designers to use, in the design and building of new hospital facilities, the second outcome is a concept design and business model for a wayfinding application, which, if made available to the public, will aid users in built facilities, which do not have the funding or time scales for renovations. Recommendations for further research were stated, along with a framework to be used in the case of continued research and application of the designed outcomes.
